Current River Trip Report

by Ozark Mountain Paddlers on September 25, 2017

September 23-24th, 2017 – Current River – Round Spring to Two Rivers:

We had a large group of 13 paddlers that attended the overnight float on the Current River (18 miles total). The weather had blessed us with summer-like conditions on the 2nd day of Fall to compliment the cold waters and beautiful scenery.  We saw 5 different bald eagle sightings on our way down to Bee Bluff, the halfway mark.  Our camp just below Bee Bluff was more than stellar (lots of bright stars out that night too) where we enjoyed smoked, marinated, grilled chicken breast (compliments of OMP), a potluck of side dishes, a great and magical fire (with multi-colored flames), and later that night, a “cordial invitation” to a fish fry by some local giggers.

After a comfortable 65˚ night with a rewarding sleep under the stars with our full bellies, we all woke up before the sun peaked over the bluff walls, enjoyed our breakfasts, packed up camp, and headed back to our downstream march for the second day.  Another great sunny day kissed our half naked bodies with warmth and sweat which again required more swim time in the semi-frigid waters. We took our time getting down to our takeout but still managed to reach our vehicles around 2:45-3:00pm.  All in all: it was a great trip with perfect weather, a perfect water level, and no river carnage (no dumped boats, crashes, or lost gear) so we couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Thanks to all who attended this float, thanks to the new faces (and old,) that showed up to paddle and contributed to camp duties, thanks to all who brought the delicious side dishes, thanks to Two Rivers Canoe Rental for the shuttle service to the put-in, and thanks to Ozark Mountain Paddlers for the bringing everyone together for this great trip!
