What's New

August 23-24, Saturday/Sunday. Dog Days Float. DUE TO AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE, WE ARE CLOSING THIS FLOAT TO ANY MORE PADDLERS. UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAVE LIMITED TENT SPACE ON THE BRYANT AND SIMPLY CANNOT FIT ANY MORE IN. Join us on the beautiful Bryant Creek for the third annual Dog Days Float. What better way to celebrate the mid-summer mind-altering heat than spend a weekend in it? Think of it as a 36-hour sauna marathon session. We will launch Saturday from Hodgson Mill on our way to Warren Bridge with frequent cool beverages and relaxing dips. Sunday we'll top it off with a group swim in the cool (icy?) waters of Brixey Spring. Contact Jason Frantz at or call 417-379- 2229.

September 6 and 13 & 14, Saturday and Saturday & Sunday. Swiftwater Rescue Clinic. Classroom session will be Saturday the 6th and field sessions will be the 13th and 14th. Contact Dale Dortch at .

September 12-14, Saturday & Sunday. Pirate Float. Avast! The fourth annual (Talk like a) Pirate Float 2008 is scheduled for Sept 12, 13 and 14 on the Current River; We're going to make this year's pirates float a 3 and 2 day float. For those who can break away and join us on Friday, we'll most likely be putting in at Cedar Grove and floating to Akers (shuttle at 11:00ish). We'll camp somewhere right above Akers Friday night. Saturday morning we'll float to Akers and meet up with the Pirates who can’t make it until Saturday. We'll plan to shuttle their vehicles at 11:00 then floating to a gravel bar somewhere down river and camp Saturday Night. Sunday morning we'll float out to Pultite. Contact Captn’ Jerry at 417-234-1258 or at if ye wish to join this year’s adventure.

September 21, Sunday The Springfield Parks Board is hosting a Sequiota Cave Tour for ten OMP boats on Sunday, Sept 21, at 9:00 am. Any OMP member who is interested in this float into Sequiota Cave should put their name in by notifying Susie Peace at or calling 417-833-2073 by the end of the day, Sept 12. Please include your name and phone number. If we have more people interested than we have slots, we will have a drawing to determine the members who get to go. All interested parties will be notified on Sat, Sept 13 as to whether their name was drawn.
