Pool Sessions and Turner Bend gathering!

by Ozark Mountain Paddlers on February 28, 2021

The board members had a meeting in early February to discuss the state of affairs and the path forward for 2021. It was determined that the continued uncertainty with the COVID-19 issue has made it very difficult for us to determine if we would have participants willing to attend a whitewater clinic this year. We were also uncertain how many of our club members and friends of the club would be willing to join the event, so we have decided to make the event more of a weekend campout and rendezvous for club members and old friends alike.

We have booked campsites with several covered pavilions and tables at Turner Bend for Friday, April 16 to Sunday the 18th. We can currently accommodate 12-16 people for camping. If we find we will have more than that many people planning to attend we will increase the number of sites reserved. The event will be informal with everyone bringing their own food and drink. We can certainly do some boating, as well as hiking and biking being options as well. Others may just want to stay in camp and chill.  I am sure many of us would like a weekend to get back out and have some fun together!

Please email the club at ozarkmtnpaddlers@gmail.com or text/call Gary Tombridge at 417-861-6056 if you think you may be attending. I am confident there will be some additional sites available at the Turner Bend, but I would not want to have 16 sites available and 35 people show up!

We are also planning on having an abbreviated set of roll practice sessions at the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch this coming Spring prior to our weekend outing.
The planned dates are:

  • Saturday, March 20th
  • Sunday, March 28th
  • Saturday, April 3rd !!!CANCELLED!!!
  • EACH SESSION IS FROM 2PM to 4PM.

COSTS FOR POOL TIME:
• OMP MEMBERS: $5 per day.
• NON-MEMBERS: $10 per day.

Since this is a facility that we are borrowing from the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch, we would like to please ask those that bring in their own boats be sure to clean them out thoroughly of leaves, sticks, dirt, aluminum cans, or any other debris that could end up in the swimming pool. We will have a bleach sprayer and hose at the pool to clean out & sanitize your boat outside as well.

Our pool meetings will be held at the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch (CLICK FOR MAP/DIRECTIONS) near Brighton, MO.  Contact Marty Zerr at 417.818.8981 to schedule pool time or for more info.

We will be posting club floats on the website and our Facebook page starting after the April get together at Turner Bend.  We are looking forward to things beginning to open back up and resuming our normal slate of activities in 2021!
